Preparing your toddler for their session

1. Revise your expectations

* Don't expect the perfectly posed shot. Toddlers have a lot of energy so you may get more candid shots than posed ones.

* expect that they are going to come in and want to explore and touch the props. That is ok! It is new for them. Requiring them to sit down and cooperate right away, usually turns in to disaster and a lot of tears. I don't mind letting them hang out for a bit so they get comfortable.

* Don't schedule a session when they would normally be napping. Schedule around naps so they come in well rested and happy.

* Don't schedule a session right after they have had immunizations. They usually don't feel well for a few days so it is best to wait a week to come in.

* Prepare to have fun and get as goofy as possible to bring out the best smiles. You know your kiddo best so if you are goofy at home to get your cell phone picture, be goofy during your session.

* Don't get frustrated when they are frustrate. They will feed off of that which will create more tears.

* Bring a snack and sippy cup in case they need to take a break.

* If they have a favorite song on your phone that brings out big smiles, play it during the session.

* Be prepared for me to move fast during the session as toddlers have a very short attention span. If they are doing well, I will move through poses quickly to get as many shots as possible to give you a variety in your gallery.
