What do I need to know in order to prepare for maternity and newborn sessions?

Maternity sessions should take place around 32-34 weeks so we can highlight your beautiful belly.

Newborns are usually photographed within the first two weeks of life. At this age, your sweet bundle will still be sleepy and love to curl up as if they are still in the womb. This makes for picture perfect photos.  I do however welcome Newborns of any age.  You should schedule your session while you are pregnant in order to assure I have a time slot available for you. Dates can be adjusted if your baby arrives early or late.  Newborn sessions can take up to 3 hours depending on the mood of the baby.  This gives me plenty of time to capture a full range of poses using a variety of props. I take my time to capture a variety of artistic images of your new baby.  The session also allows time to feed baby, keeping him/her happy, relaxed and sleepy. Most poses are typically captured while baby is sleeping.   I suggest keeping the baby up as much as you can before the session and then give them a bath and feed them right before you arrive so he/she is nice and sleepy and we can begin shooting right away. To assure we don't disturb the baby much, Keep him/her in an outfit that does not need to be pulled over the head. I use a space heater to keep the area at around 80 degrees while the baby is naked so they stay nice and warm.  With that being said, my studio gets nice and toasty, so dress accordingly! I recommend solid, neutral clothes for mom and dad. Busy prints, take away from the focus point which is your sweet new baby. I have a variety of props, wraps, outfits, and hair pretties that tie in beautifully with my sets.  I have a lot of gorgeous backgrounds to style your session from top to bottom.

family session?

Schedule your session around your child's nap time to ensure we have happy kids to photograph!  Family sessions usually take around an hour give or take a few.  It normally depends on how well the kiddos do. I know how hard it can be to get your kiddos ready for your photo session, but it is very important that we begin your session on time in order to ensure we are able to capture everything you want during your scheduled time slot. I run a lot of back to back sessions so I can not hold up my next client if you are late.

What to wear?

Choose outfits that coordinate, but don't match.  Start with the person that will be the hardest to dress, once you have that outfit set, coordinate everyone else to that outfit. Try to keep it to 3 or 4 colors and then add some texture with different layers, scarves, jewelry, etc.  Please avoid florescent colors and clothing with words/logos on them.  A lot of people forget to pick nice shoes, they will show up in certain poses so choose your shoes well!

When is my payment due?

I require the non-refundable retainer fee to be paid up front.  It is due at booking and is used to hold your session date.

What comes after our session?

With your signed model release, I will post a sneak peek on Facebook within a day or two.  Within three weeks, your gallery will be ready for viewing/ordering.  I oftentimes have your gallery ready within a week if I am not really busy.

What if the weather is bad?

Occasionally we will need to reschedule due to rain or other weather related events.  I will do my best to reschedule with you as soon as possible as our schedules permits.  I can still shoot if it is cold.

Can I use some your photo as my profile picture on Facebook or Instagram?

Yes, free to use any photos as your profile picture. You may not crop or edit the photo in any way or remove my watermark.  It is illegal to download/save/print images you have not purchased so please do not do that.  It is a copyright violation.  If you purchase digital copies, you may then use the pictures as you choose.  Please feel free to share/tag the images on Facebook or Instagram as it is a great referral source for me! Remember, you get a referral discount if you send someone my way so please feel free to tag and share!

Am I allowed to take pictures/videos during my session?

No, It can be very distracting to your children and to me.  I assure you, you will love the photos I create and I will post a sneak peak to your page within a day or two so you won't have to wait long.  I will sometimes ask you to take a picture of me photographing your kiddos to use for marketing purposes.

Can I see the Reject Photos?

I spend a great deal of time making sure I’m delivering a perfect finished product. Meaning there are many things that may need to be culled out of the whole event (things like light tests, blinking and bad faces). Please TRUST me I will deliver the best photos from your session. PLUS! It’s part of my  job to narrow down all of these photos for you! ;)
